At least 12 people have been killed in a shooting near a Jewish gathering on the occasion of Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach in Australia this afternoon.

One gunman was killed while another is in custody.

Twenty-nine people including two police officers have been injured and taken to various hospitals.

Authorities said, there is no longer an active threat but have urged people to avoid the area.

One of the gunman was Naveed Akram from Bonnyrigg in Sydney’s southwest, according to a senior law enforcement official.

According to Chris Minns, the premier of New South Wales, the attack was intended to harm the Jewish community in Sydney.

The shooting was referred to as a “devastating terrorist incident” by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese who called a national security meeting.
